VITALIK BUTERIN, the co-creator of Ethereum, is stepping back from the day-to-day coordination of the Ethereum Foundation, according to TOMASZ K. STANCZAK, the co-executive director of the foundation. This strategic shift will allow BUTERIN to dedicate more time to research and exploration rather than routine operational tasks.
STANCZAK emphasized that BUTERIN’S contributions remain pivotal to the Ethereum ecosystem. “Each time Vitalik shares insights or communicates a direction, he accelerates major long-term breakthroughs. His recent posts on RISC-V and zkVMs have advanced promising avenues, while his writing on privacy has helped realign the community around the Ethereum Foundation’s core values,” STANCZAK stated. He clarified that BUTERIN’S proposals will continue to inspire dialogue and progress, though they may undergo community refinement or even rejection.
The Ethereum Foundation is now focusing on near-term objectives, including Layer 1 scaling, Layer 2 support, and significant user experience improvements. Projects such as the Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam upgrades are currently prioritized. “We are exploring ways to bring forward projects that currently look three to five years away. Posts from our top researchers help some of them to ship within one or two years through initiatives such as next-generation execution and consensus layers,” STANCZAK explained.
This reorganization underscores the Ethereum Foundation’s commitment to innovation and adaptability as it continues to shape the future of blockchain technology.
